Overview
Led the user experience design for a next-generation welder’s human-machine interface, applying research, information architecture, ideation, prototyping, and user testing. Also established the visual design direction and contributed to a design pattern library.
The Challenge
Creating a unified design across five device types (7”-12” screens, 4.3” screens, and mobile platforms) supporting four personas and five major task categories within a five-month timeline. Additional challenges included client unfamiliarity with software development and staffing limitations.
Methodology
Employed targeted design sprints for each device, object-oriented design principles, and iterative collaboration with stakeholders and subject matter experts through phases of understanding, diverging, converging, prototyping, and testing.
Results
- SUS score improved from 70 to 82.5 (12.5-point increase)
- Dashboard with role-based quick access
- Innovative recipe creation with real-time parameter adjustment
- Integrated data analytics across system, production, and recipes
- Material Design implementation for cross-platform consistency
